The Wedding day
I have never shot a wedding at the St. Albert Curling Club before but I would happily hurry back there and photograph again! What a hidden gem, truly! It’s much larger than you think and completely renovated with a couple of bonuses, including, a fantastic park nearby that made us as photographers completely drooling because it had fantastic light. In addition to the park just behind the building, the curling club itself offers an amazing opportunity to light the room beautifully. You’ll notice I talk a lot about light, it’s all photographers really care about. Shitty location but great light? Let the magic begin! Have the reverse situation? We’ll make great photos, but the word stunning might be lacking. This is why I always bring my assistant and my lighting with me, so I can always make incredible photos for you at any time anywhere.
Now let’s back to Tracy and Jim, this wedding, in particular, feels incredibly close to my heart. Originally Tracy and Jim had their wedding booked with me for the following year. When I met with them the first time they told me how important family was to them. They told me how Tracy’s father had gone through a health crisis prior and it was in the past, perfect timing to finally organize their wedding! Fast forward to only a few months later and I got a call from Tracy, her dad, as they had just found out was sick again and it was terminal. They told me they would be getting married now in only a matter of weeks, I’m so happy I was still able to be their photographer to capture this day for them it meant so much more to me now.
Having lost my own father to cancer just over ten years ago when I was 14 I knew just how important this day was for everyone. There isn’t a day that goes by that I wish I could have my own father at my wedding, especially now that I am, myself, planning my own wedding day. I know that they value these images just as much as I do when I look at them, I feel honoured to have them in my portfolio, I feel honoured to have met Tracy, Jim, and all their family and friends.
It was a special day, and let’s not forget so much fun! They cheered and danced, drank and ate. And even a little special surprise, ending up at RE/MAX field for some portraits. Because these two love sports if maybe you couldn’t tell by the Oiler’s themed colours at their reception. Please enjoy viewing their wedding as much as I had the honour to photograph it!
